From Caitlyn Collard Photography:

Jessica and Joey were married at The Thinker’s Lodge in Pugwash on August 2nd, 2015. The ceremony was held on the lawn in a tent surrounded by ocean on a beautiful day. A cocktail hour followed on the back porch and then a reception was held in an old lobster factory right next door to the Lodge. Jessica and Joey are two of the kindest, most relaxed couples I have ever worked with. It was truly a celebration of love.

From the bride, Jessica:

Joey and I met in Montréal on a last minute, weekend road trip. I was living and going to school in Halifax, he was living and teaching in Montréal. We met in a pub and fell madly in love with each other! We spent the next 8 months Skyping and emailing, with a short, weekend visit to hold us over each month. Long distance was unbearable. Within 8 months we were living in the same city and starting our life together. We now live and work in Montréal and since we are both teachers, spend our summers in Nova Scotia.

We found our beautiful wedding venue and fell in love with it right away. I always knew I wanted to get married by the ocean. It perfectly captured who we are and how we love to spend our summers-at the beach! We had been talking about marriage for a while, but were waiting for life to stabilize a little. We quickly figured out that life waits for no one, so one Sunday evening while cooking dinner at home, Joey got down on one knee and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him.

The inspiration for our wedding came from the obvious – Pinterest. Like every Bride, I spent countless hours pinning and planning our wedding. Our theme was inspired by a vintage English tea party, with lots of florals, bunting and all things girly. Luckily, I married an amazing man who gave me full reign of the decorations and details. Our colors were soft pink, cream, white and gold.

Every decoration and detail was handmade. Our families were instrumental in creating everything! From bouquets to wine labels – we made it all!

My wedding band belonged to my late Grandmother, so it is very special to me. Inside our rings we had two of our favorite sayings to each other engraved. Inside my ring it says ‘love you more’ and inside Joey’s ring it says ‘It’s dangerous to go alone’ which has very special meaning to an English speaking girl living in a very French city. We also wrote our own vows, which was very important to us and made our ceremony so personal.

Choosing just one favorite moment from our wedding day is hard to pinpoint. However I think I would have to say the ceremony. I was so excited for Joey to become my husband and me to become his wife. We were both so giddy standing in front of our family and friends, declaring our love for each other. I have never smiled so big or been so happy.

My advice for other brides-to-be is to enjoy the process. Live each moment. The planning process seems like such a logistical nightmare at the beginning however, I really grew to love the details and all the planning that was required. I also loved just being engaged. It’s such a romantic time in your life – to call your man your fiancé – and passes by very quickly when you plan your wedding in 6 months. Enjoy each step in the process because before you know it, you will be walking down the aisle and all your hard work will have paid off.
