Fall is my favourite time of year – the leaves falling, the crisp chill in the air, the gorgeous hues of brown, deep red, burnt orange – so it’s no wonder that a fall wedding makes my heart melt. Jessica and Shawn’s PEI wedding is the epitome of a perfect fall wedding.

Styled in Lace: Tell us about you and your groom – how you met and the details. How did he propose?

I met my husband in the summer of 2008 at a friend’s house. We had ran into each other a couple of times over the summer and then I went back to Nova Scotia for my last year of university and he stayed on the Island to continue his apprenticeship. In September, after a night out with friends, I was pleasantly surprised to find a message in my Facebook inbox from him. Over the next 3-4 months, we excitedly exchanged countless Facebook messages getting to know each other and talking about our daily lives. Over the Christmas break we spent a lot of time together and shortly after returning to university we were officially a couple. I moved back to PEI after graduation and lived there for the next year, before moving to New Brunswick for work. We spent two years living apart, with a lot of travelling on weekends, with our cat Phil, before I moved back.

The week before Thanksgiving in 2014, I had been busy with work functions and we had not seen much of each other. On the Friday, I was sitting on the couch in the living room of our first apartment. Shawn told me that he and Phil had bought something for me and to close my eyes. He left the room and when he returned told me to put my hand out. When I opened my eyes, there was a red oval shaped ring box in the palm of my hand. I must say the moment had taken my quite by surprise and I was speechless, but of course said yes.

Styled in Lace: What was your inspiration behind your overall wedding decor and colour choices?

My husband I are lovers of the fall season. When looking for the venue, the first photo I had viewed of Centre Goeland was an aerial view during fall with all of the leaves changing colors. I was hooked. The location and venue were so beautiful on their own, all I wanted to do was play off the rustic vibe with some classic and vintage pieces without it being too much.

Styled in Lace: Any personal meaning in the details?

During our ceremony I had written a poem about our journey as a couple. Other than that I could say that everything we planned and chose were things that we, as a couple, truly loved and wanted to share with our closest family and friends.

Styled in Lace: What was your favourite moment from your wedding day?

It is really hard to pick a favorite moment. The whole day turned out so amazing. I could not describe it more than that is was the best day of my life. It being a smaller wedding, it was phenomenal getting to share it with the people that mean most to us.

Styled in Lace: Do you have any advice for other brides-to-be?

I think that really being in the moment as much as you can and not worrying about the small things is so important. There was such build up to our amazing day and it all went very quickly. That day should be spent focusing on your special bond between you and your husband and the great love and life that you share.
