I’m a sucker for anything pink and gold and I immediately fell in love with Krystal and Brett’s wedding. The photos captured by Terri-Lynn Warren Photography are gorgeous, but even more amazing is the story behind all of the personal touches the couple incorporated into their big day.

From the Bride …

Brett and I met online, and then in real life, Easter Long weekend 2009. We went to a movie, and talked all night, actually until the next afternoon! He was something special, an absolute gentleman! We moved in together 2 short weeks later, crazy I know but for us, we just knew. He is my polar opposite, which is great. He keeps me realistic and organized, and I bring him out of his shell, and push him to be more adventurous. Our two favourite things to do however are the same. I am always coming up with new home reno and DIY projects and he is my handyman hero, and we are both huge football fans. He’s a Chicago Bears fan, I’m a Denver Broncos fan and we’re actually planning a trip to Chicago for our honeymoon to catch a game! A first for both of us! During the course of our relationship we’ve been blessed with two gorgeous boys. Our oldest son, Easton was born in 2011, and then his little brother in 2014 and we couldn’t be happier.

Brett sat me in the living room, in front of the tree, Christmas Eve 2012 because he wanted to give me a gift before our families arrived. I was so excited! I checked my hair, and sat down just to open a candle in the shape of an owl. While the owl was nice, he took a lot of flack from our family and friends over what they would call ‘our engagement owl’! He actually proposed in the exact same place, same time, one year later.

The overall feel for the wedding was whimsy and romance, with some drama. I started with Navy as the starting point and anchor by picking out my fabulous bridesmaid dresses and table runners first. Then added various shades of pink, creams and gold. Real roses and peonies on the tables added softness. Having a wedding decorator for a Mother came in handy as well! She helped me come up with the swing over the head table, the hanging roses from the mini wagon wheel, and everything in between really. It was amazing how the floor to ceiling pipe and drape completely transformed the space. It was important that we didn’t feel like we were in a community hall and she accomplished that.

Our day was filled with little personal touches that meant so much to us. Tucked into my bouquet was a children’s spoon, which belonged to my Grandmother when she was a babe, I had a crystal sewn onto my dress from my Nans chandelier which I found in a drawer that I used to think was treasures just for me, a charm on my bracelet I borrowed from my aunt, who had passed on a year before. Our seating chart was framed in my great-great grandfather Donatus’ picture frame and our sons walked down the aisle holding onto a football with our rings attached.

My favourite moment of the day was when are oldest son walked down the aisle, with his eyes shut! I guess he decided to pretend he was shy. The guests laughed, and honestly I think it was everyone’s highlight! A great start to the day!

My advice is make lists and stick to them, add if you need to, but keep the original! To stay on budget prioritize needs and wants and divide money up accordingly. My big thing was my photographer, I actually messaged her Christmas Eve, right after calling my family to share the news, and asked her to check her availability before we set a date! Finally, pick an amazing MOH who will have your back should you forget anything (mine was fab!), and to hand over your cell phone to her the night before the wedding, sit back and enjoy it. Nothing needs your attention that bad, and its nothing she can’t handle.
