There’s something about a white, blush and gold summer-time wedding that makes my heart skip a beat. It’s romantic yet chic vibe sets the tone for the theme of Erin and Nick’s Summerside, PEI wedding.

Styled in Lace: Tell us about you and your groom – how you met and the details. How did he propose?

We met on the first day of high school when we spotted each other during orientation (I had my eyes on him)! We eventually began dating, and though we went our separate ways before graduating, we remained acquaintances. He moved to Calgary and I moved to Halifax to pursue our careers, but ten years later we reconnected at a friend’s party. After a year of long distance, we both moved back to the Island – two new jobs, one new home, and several vacations later, we’ve brought it full circle!

Styled in Lace: What was your inspiration behind your overall wedding decor and colour choices?

We wanted the decor to be clean and chic, with some playful touches to represent our personalities. Our colours were white, blush, and gold. White because it’s classic and bright, blush because it’s subtle and complementary, and gold because it added the glam factor. We actually used gold accent pieces from our own house throughout the decor to add some personalized style.

Styled in Lace: Any personal meaning in the details you’d like to share?

One of our biggest factors for choosing an outdoor deck wedding at the Shipyard was the view of the water and McCallum’s Point Lighthouse. It holds special meaning to us because it is where Nick proposed! It was pretty cool to say our vows in front of the place where he initially asked for my hand in marriage.

Styled in Lace: What was your favourite moment from your wedding day?

That’s tough because there were so many incredible moments! If I had to choose though, it’d probably be a tie between our first look and our cocktail hour. The first look was on the boardwalk at my parent’s cottage, overlooking the water, which was so perfect because we spend so much time there in the summer, and any nerves we felt were immediately gone the moment we saw each other. The cocktail hour was super fun because we had a great jazz band performing while we mingled with all of our friends and family as the sun set. It was a great opportunity to really soak in the day with a glass of wine!

Styled in Lace: Do you have any advice for other brides-to-be?

If I could give any advice, it would be to take a deep breath, and enjoy it all – both the planning and the actual wedding. Planning does not have to be stressful if you communicate, prioritize, and stick to a budget. Don’t get too hung up on any single detail, because a fantastic wedding is really made up of the sum of its parts – not one little thing! On the day of, make a point of taking some moments to step back and soak it all in with your partner. Everyone says the day will fly by, and they’re not lying! You spend months (sometimes years!) planning for your wedding, whereas the actual day lasts mere hours, so you owe it to yourself to enjoy the planning process!
